Many products like elevators, section built hydraulic valves, solar panels and automation lines are systems where different parts are configured individually but at the same time are dependent on each other.

In Combinum CPQ it's called composite configurations when configurations contains other configurations in a tree structure. This is used for system like products, but also for creation a "quote" product so that sales reps can create quotes that contain multiple configurations of different products.

All modules of Combinum are built to work excellently in system configuration scenarios and you can create as many configuration levels as you need. Combinum also supports automatic and rule-driven creation of child configurations. You can for example have a parameter for the number of landings of an elevator and the corresponding landing configurations are created automatically.

Child products

To allow creation of child configurations, the product that is the starting point of the configuration shall contain one or more other products. For example can a "Building" product can contain a "Window" product and a "Door" product. This will allow the user to add both windows and doors as child configurations when configuring a building.

If a child product shall be possible to configure standalone (without a parent configuration) it shall also be linked to the root of the product tree or to a product family.
